Brush fire closes onramps from 71 to 91 in Corona

CORONA, Calif. (AP) Firefighters have contained a 17-acre brushfire that shut down the interchange between two Southern California highways near Corona.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Bill Peters says two small blazes broke out on the east side of State Route 71, just north of State Route 91, near the Prado Flood Control Basin at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and eventually merged into one. The blaze was completely contained by 5:50 p.m.

The fire shut down the southbound State Route 71 onramp for an hour and a half. The northbound onramp remained closed Wednesday evening as firefighters conducted mop-up operations near the road, causing a traffic backup.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in the fire.
