The Knights are showing they can compete with some of the powerhouse boys basketball programs in the state. The St. Joseph boys won for the second-straight night at their third annual National Prep Classic with a 50-30 victory over Palmdale on Thursday at Allan Hancock College.
The 2-0 Knights led 28-16 at the half and outscored Palmdale 15-9 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 18 points.
After pouring in 25 in an overtime win over Westchester on Wednesday, Case Bruton scored a team-high 20 points on 8 for 13 shooting on the night. He added 9 rebounds and 2 steals.
Keith Datu added 13 points, a team-high16 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. The 6-7 Datu pulled down 6 offensive rebounds for the Knights. Curry Parham added 5 points and 7 rebounds with 3 steals. Isaac Murillo dished out 8 assists to go with 6 points. Spencer Casarez added 6 points and 2 steals for the Knights.
Palmdale, which has a student body nearly nine times the size of St. Joseph, went 20-7 last season and advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Sweet 16.
St. Joseph advances to the semifinals and plays at 6:30 pm Friday at Hancock College.
