Isaac Murillo tossed a lob up to the rim, where Keith Datu slammed it home in the opening seconds of the game to set the tone for the St. Joseph boys basketball team. The Knights upset 3rd seeded Exeter 77-49 in a first round game in the CIF State Tournament on Wednesday night.
The Knights improved to 23-8 on the season in their first State Tournament berth since 2004.
Case Bruton led the Knights with 26 points. Datu finished with 18 points and Curry Parham added 14 points. Murillo, a senior point guard, dished out 17 assists in the victory.
The Knights jumped out to a 21-5 lead and took a 42-20 advantage into halftime.
The Knights, the 14th seed in Division 4, play at #6 Bishop Montgomery in the So-Cal Regional semifinals on Saturday. Bishop is 30-1 and crushed Coalinga 87-24 in the first round.
