Case Bruton scored a game-high 20 points to lead three Knights in double-figures as the St. Joseph High boys basketball team opened Pac 7 League play with a 58-52 win over Arroyo Grande, the defending league champions on Wednesday night.
The Knights improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in league. The Eagles fell to 11-4 overall and 0-1 in league. The Eagles also lost their league opener last season before winning their final eleven league meetings to earn the title.
The Knights led 27-24 at the half before outscoring the Eagles 15-7 in the third quarter to build an 11 point lead.
Bruton led all scorers with 20 points. Curry Parham scored some key buckets in the first half to finish with 14 points, while Keith Datu added 11 and Isaac Murillo chipped in 7.
Matt Willkomm drained three 3-pointers and led the Eagles with 19 points. Andrew Midyett and Brennan Rivera each scored 11 points for AG. The Knights held AG star Cobe Williams to six points on the night on two 3-point buckets.
