The theme is "building a community of peacemakers."
On Monday, the 14th annual Peace Week kicked off in Santa Maria.
It's sponsored by the People for Nonviolence Committee of Marian Medical Center.
An opening ceremony and luncheon took place with an inspirational speaker.
Veronica Jordan-Farmer shared her emotional story.
Jordan-Farmer, keynote speaker, said, "I'm an individual who has experienced the restorative justice process after the murder of my children. Peace, forgiveness and restorative justice are very dear to my heart."
This is just one of many events planned this week.
Peace Week will wrap up on Saturday with a Cultural Diversity Neighborhood Fiesta.
