SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Madison Bumgarner took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with a one-hitter and the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-0 Thursday night.
Bumgarner (10-4) completed his first career game with his first shutout as the Giants tossed four consecutive shutouts for the first time in franchise history. Bumgarner walked one and struck out eight in winning his fifth straight decision.
Angel Pagan, Pablo Sandoval, Gregor Blanco and Ryan Theriot each drove in a runs for the Giants, who have won four straight and six of seven to move into first place in the NL West for the first time this year. Melky Cabrera had two hits and reached base four times.
Johnny Cueto (9-4) had his four-game winning streak halted despite turning in a quality start. He allowed three runs - two earned - on six hits in six innings. He walked four and struck out three.
Ryan Hanigan led off the sixth with a solid single to end Bumgarner's no-hit bid.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - David Wright hit a solo homer and RBI double as the New York Mets sent the Los Angeles Dodgers to their fifth straight loss, 3-2 Thursday night.
The Dodgers ended their 33-inning scoreless drought in the fourth, with Dee Gordon getting congratulated up and down the dugout after crossing the plate. But they couldn't break through against the Mets' bullpen and dropped from the top of the NL West standings.
Chris Young (2-1) allowed two runs and six hits in 6 1-3 innings, striking out six and walking none.
Bobby Parnell, getting his first save opportunity since closer Frank Francisco went on the disabled list, pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the year.
Chris Capuano (9-3) gave up three runs and five hits in seven innings.
