Fresh snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is a welcome sight for businesses that cater to skiers and snowboarders.
Mountain Air Sports in San Luis Obispo says the snow, combined with the holiday shopping season, has kept the store busy.
"It's been a very busy early season for us and I think a lot of that has been the early snow and snow being in the forecast," said manager Josh Haring. "People are talking about snow a lot more."
More snow is possible over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Haring said, because of the early snow base, he expects Mountain Air Sports to continue to sell and rent ski and snowboard equipment through May of 2013.
Officials with the California Department of Water Resources said the recent storms have pushed California's snowpack to well above normal levels.
That's good news for the state's water supply because the melting snowpack provides about a third of the water used across the state.
