CA Supreme Court rules on labor picketing case

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The California Supreme Court has ruled the state's labor laws assuring union members the right to picket on privately owned walkways that front store entrances are not unconstitutional.
Thursday's ruling reverses an appellate court ruling two years ago that struck down two sections of the state's labor laws as unconstitutional. That ruling declared shop owners can't be forced to allow picketing on their property because it pertains to a labor dispute.
The Sacramento Bee reports the high court sent the case back to the 3rd District Court of Appeal for further proceedings.
Union members began picketing the entrance and on sidewalks adjacent to a Foods Co. store since it opened in 2007. They encouraged shoppers to boycott the store because its employees weren't represented by a union.
