Last year, Nipomo beat Cabrillo in the final regular season game to win the Los Padres League title outright and prevent the Conquistadores from sharing the championship with them. Cabrillo got revenge on Tuesday by beating the Titans for a second time this season to clinch at least a share of the LPL crown. The Conquistadores beat the Titans 5-2 and are now a game up on Nipomo with one game to play. "We had a little bit of revenge to take care of from last year so we came out here, did what we had to, got the win" said Madison McNamee who pitched a complete game on the mound for Cabrillo.
The Conquistadores scored single runs in the first and second innings before the Titans tied it with a 2-RBI base hit by Saundra Renner in the third. With two on and two out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cabrillo's Haylee Kennedy popped one into no man's land in left field. The ball dropped in front of the shortstop and left fielder allowing Carissa Sanchez to score the go ahead run.
The Conquistadores scored two insurance runs off of Courtney Cuzick in the sixth for the 5-2 win. Cabrillo improves to 14-8 overall, 10-1 in the Los Padres League. Nipomo drops to 17-4, 9-2.
The Conquistadores can clinch the outright League title with a win in their regular season finale at Lompoc on Friday or with a Nipomo loss at Morro Bay.
