The Conquistadores took care of business on the road to capture their second-straight Los Padres League title on Wednesday. The Cabrillo boys basketball team beat Santa Maria 68-49 to clinch the outright crown.
Cabrillo stayed undefeated in league and improved to 10-0 in LPL games and 16-8 overall. The Saints dropped to 6-3 in league and into a tie for second place with Templeton. They are 15-8 on the year.
Cabrillo surged to a 15-8 lead after the first quarter and carried a 32-23 lead into the half. They extended their lead to 16 to start the fourth quarter.
Josh West led Cabrillo with a game-high 24 points. Chad Brodhead finished with 16 points and Michael Woodard added 10 for the Conquistadores.
Devon Brock had 14 points and Shemarr Parker had 11 points to lead the Saints.
Cabrillo plays at Templeton on Friday, while Santa Maria battles Morro Bay.
The Templeton Eagles won their fifth-straight game with a 60-37 thrashing of rival Morro Bay. The Eagles are now 6-3 in league and 12-9 for the year.
Andrew Garretson led Templeton with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Will Mehring added 12 points and Jackson Wheeler tallied 7 points and 5 assists.
Templeton hosts league champion Cabrillo on Friday. The Conquistadores are looking to go undefeated in league, something the program did under coach Gary West three years go.
