Cal Poly back in second place after dominant win

The Cal Poly women's basketball team took a 45-18 lead to the half and went on to beat UC-Riverside, 79-56. The home win improves the Mustangs to 9-3 at the Mott Athletic Center this season. Overall, Cal Poly is now 12-8, the Mustangs improve to 6-3 in the Big West. They move into a three way tie with CS-Northridge and Hawai'i for second place. Pacific is two games ahead, the Tigers only conference loss was in triple-overtime at Cal Poly. The Mustangs play at Pacific on Thursday night.

Sophomore guard Ariana Elegado led Cal Poly with 19 points, she made 5 of 8 three pointers. Junior post Molly Schlemer added 18 points while junior guard Jonae Ervin had 10 points and 6 assists.

As a team the Mustangs shot 49 percent, they were 57 percent (8-14) from three point range. Cal Poly had 21 assists compared to 12 turnovers.

14 players saw action in the game for the Mustangs.

UCR falls to 10-10 overall and 3-6 in the Big West.
