The Cal Poly baseball team had 18 hits and belted three homeruns in a 15-4 home win against Pacific on Saturday night. The win was the Mustangs second against the Tigers in as many days and moves them into a third place tie with UCSB. The Gauchos lost to Davis and have the same 8-6 record in the Big West as the Mustangs. Overall Cal Poly is now 24-17. Pacific drops to 1-10 in the Big West.
The Mustangs got solo homeruns from Chris Hoo, Mike Miller and Mitch Haniger in the first three innings. The long ball was Haniger's Big West leading ninth of the season. The Junior center fielder was 2-4 with four runs batted in, Haniger has a conference best 45 RBI. Third baseman Jimmy Allen also knocked in four and was 3-5 at the plate. Miller was 5-5 with the homerun and two runs batted in. The senior short stop has a slight lead now for best average on the team. Miller is batting .352. Allen is at .350 and Haniger is hitting .348.
Starting pitcher Kyle Anderson wasn't at his best, the senior pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk. The left hander who was placed on the pitcher of the year watch list earlier this week is now 7-1 on the season. HIs earned run average rises to 2.64.
Cal Poly and Pacific will finish the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. inside Baggett Stadium.
