Cal Poly Athletic Director Don Oberhelman has suspended assistant football coach Randy Hanson indefinitely. Oberhelman made the announcement on Monday afternoon prior to the football team's first preseason practice.
KSBY News reported Sunday that Hanson was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after police said he attacked another person with a beer bottle at Harry's Bar in Pismo Beach early Saturday morning.
Oberhelman said a final decision would be made once he and head coach Tim Walsh received all the facts. He did not provide a timetable to when that might happen.
Hanson joined the program to coach defensive backs in April. He made national headlines in 2009 when he was an Oakland Raiders assistant coach. He accused head coach Tom Cable of punching him and breaking his jaw during a coaches meeting.
Walsh has taken over the duties as defensive backs coach.
