The unbeaten Cal Poly football team is ranked number one in this week's Gridiron Power Index compiled by the College Sporting News. The Gridiron Power Index combines all major FCS rankings, including computer-generated polls. It is the index ranking for the Football Championship Subdivision and a top indicator of at-large playoff selection. North Dakota State is second, followed by Eastern Washington, Georgia Southern and Montana State.
The 6-0 Mustangs are ranked number one in two of the nine polls used for the GPI: Laz Index and Ashburn.
The Mustangs are ranked 12th in the FCS Coaches Poll and 14th in The Sports Network media poll following a 56-28 victory over Northern Colorado.
Cal Poly is one of four unbeatens left in the FCS along with Lehigh (7-0), Tennessee State (7-0) and Harvard (5-0).
The Mustangs are tied for first in the Big Sky Conference with Eastern Washington. Cal Poly continues Big Sky play on Saturday with a home game against 2-4 Portland State at 6:05. The Mustangs quest for 7-0 will be televised on KSBY.
