Cal Poly is one of two FCS teams still unbeaten and the Mustangs are up to 11th in both the Coaches and the Media polls. Cal Poly was 12th in the Coaches Poll and 14th in the Sports Network Media poll last week. Just like last week, the Mustangs received three first place votes in the Media poll.
Cal Poly is 7-0 after a 37-25 home win against Portland State on Saturday. The Big Sky win improved the Mustangs to 5-0 in the conference, good for a first place tie with Eastern Washington. Eastern Washington is the top ranked team in both polls.
The Mustangs play at 5-3 Sacramento State on Saturday at 6:05pm. The Hornets are 5-3, 3-2 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State lost by three points at Eastern Washington on Saturday. The Hornets most impressive win this season is a 30-28 victory at the University of Colorado.
Also on Monday, Cal Poly junior kicker Bobby Zalud was named Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week for a second time this season. Zalud was three for three on field goals and four for four on extra points in the win over Portland State. Zalud averaged 34 yards on three punts including one that went out of bounds at the 12 yard line. Four of his eight kick-offs went for touchbacks.
