Cal Poly goalkeeper Chase Hauser earned the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week Award on Monday. The sophomore compiled 3 saves, including two down the stretch, in the Cal Poly men's soccer team's home-opening 1-0 win against Valparaiso on Sunday.
It marked the second collegiate shutout for Hauser in just his third career start. He leads all Big West goalies with a 0.50 goals against average and ranks second with and .857 save percentage.
He has not allowed a goal in his last 161 minutes in the cage. He also won the conference's top honor last season when he blanked 7th ranked UC Irvine in his first collegiate start while filling in for Patrick McLain.
Sunday's victory marked the first time since November 2010 that Cal Poly won two in a row. It was also Cal Poly's first shutout since last October.
The 2-2 Mustangs continue their five-match homestand on Friday night against Temple and a Sunday battle with Army.
