BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal Poly baseball team got eight strong innings from freshman Justin Calomeni and beat Bakersfield 9-1 at Hardt Field on Tuesday.
Calomeni - who improved to 7-1 with the victory - scattered seven hits while allowing just one earned run and striking out seven.
Cal Poly (31-5, 8-1) pounded out 15 hits as a team, three from Mark Mathias, who also scored three runs in the win.
Sophomore Brian Mundell collected 4 RBI, while Brett Barbier was two for five with 2 RBI.
Bakersfield (14-20, 7-5) was led by Logan Trowbridge, who was two for three and the lone Roadrunner to collect more than one hit.
The Mustangs host Cal State Fullerton for a pivital three-game series at Baggett Stadium beginning on Thursday.
