Cal Poly hangs on to beat CS-Bakersfield

The Cal Poly women's basketball team had a 19 point lead on CSU Bakersfield with 15:33 to play and the Mustangs were able to hang on for a 75-71 win. The Mustangs improve to 4-2 while the Roadrunners fal to 1-5.
The Mustangs were up 44-29 at the half after making 61 percent of their shots. They cooled off in the second half and CSUB was able to cut their lead to two points with 8 seconds to go. From their junior point guard Jonae Ervin was able to make a pair of free throws to secure the win. Ervin was playing her second game after tearing the A.C.L. in her right knee in Cal Poly's final game of last season. She scored 13 points, with five rebounds and three steals.
The Mustangs were led by seniors Nikol Allison and Caroline Reeves who scored 14 points each. It was a career high for Allison who also had a career best 8-rebounds off the bench.
Cal Poly shot 48 percent from the floor despite going 0-for-8 from three-point range. CSUB shot 36 percent from the floor and made seven of 20 from long range. Cal Poly outrebounded the Roadrunners, 53-34, but turned the ball over 11 more times, 25-14.
The Mustangs host Saint Mary's on Thursday at 7:00pm.
