Cal Poly hoop teams open Big West play, Donahue out

The Cal Poly basketball teams tip off Big West Conference play later tonight.

The men are playing on the road at UC Irvine. Joe Callero's men look to snap a three game losing skid. They must open Big West play without the services of big man Will Donahue. The Mustangs' second leading scorer and top rebounder will sit out his second game in a row while he awaits academic clearance from the NCAA. Cal Poly is looking to rebound from last year when the squad finished last in the Big West and failed to make the Conference Tournament. Tip off at UC Irvine will be at 7 pm Monday evening. The Mustangs return home to play two more Big West games this week starting Friday at 7pm against Pacific.

The Lady Mustangs look to build on last year's historic season in Conference play that opens tonight. The Cal Poly women host UC Irvine in Mott Gym at 7pm. The ladies are gunning for their first three game winning streak of the season, as well as their seventh straight win over UC Irvine.

Cal Poly is coming off a 94-66 home victory over Seattle. Irvine enters Mott Gym coming off a loss at UCSB and with a 3-10 overall record. The women play two more Conference games later this week beginning Thursday at Pacific.
