Earth Day is Thursday but Cal Poly kicked off a week-long celebration Monday.

Students gathered at the University Union Monday afternoon to focus on recycling.

Organizers say the goal of Earth Week 2010 is to promote sustainability and raise awareness about climate change.

"We just want to bring the focus into our campus that everyone can make a difference," said Sam Gross of Focus SLO. "We can all help each other out in creating a sustainable economy for our country."

The festivities continue through Saturday when Earth Day SLO takes over Mission Plaza.
