The Cal Poly men's soccer team played evenly with 12th ranked UCLA but the Bruins scored the only goal of the match early in the second half to win 1-0. The loss ended the Mustangs five match winning streak which tied the all time winning streak in program history. Cal Poly drops to 5-3.
UCLA's goal came 59 seconds into the second half, Fernando Monge headed a Leo Stolz corner kick past Cal Poly freshman goalkeeper Wade Hamilton from three yards away. It was the Bruins first shot on net of the game and ended up being one of two in the match.
Cal Poly had four shots on net, in the first half, junior forward Mackenzie Pridham had a goal called back for offsides. One of six times the Mustangs were whistled for the infraction.
Cal Poly will open its 12th season in the Big West Conference on Friday night at Cal State Fullerton. On Sunday afternoon the Mustangs will play at 19th ranked UC Riverside.
