The Cal Poly men's basketball team will play its first postseason in the program's 19 year Division I tenure after accepting an invitation to the 32 team CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Cal Poly visits Weber State for an opening round matchup on Wednesday. Tip off is at 6:05 p.m. PDT.
The Mustangs are 18-13 and winners of nine of their last 11 games. Cal Poly is coming off a tough 55-53 last second loss to Pacific in the Big West Tournament semifinals. The decision of whether or not to play in the postseason was left up to the team's three senior.
"I mean it's definitely bitter sweet but I'm more thrilled than I am sad at this point. The fact that we're not done and we can keep playing games, who doesn't want to keep playing games?" said senior guard Dylan Royer, who earned All-Conference Honorable Mention after averaging 10 points per game and shooting 41 percent from 3-point range.
Weber State is 26-6 and enjoyed a 13 game winning streak until losing to top seeded Montana 67-64 in the Big Sky Conference championship.
Last season, WSU opened with a CIT victory against Utah Valley before losing in overtime at Loyola Marymount.
The second round will be Thursday to Saturday, with the quarterfinals scheduled for March 24-26. Following the semifinals March 28-30, the championship game is set for April 2.
The C.I.T. started in 2009 as a 16 team tournament. Often mid-major programs not selected for the NCAA Tournament or National Invitational Tournament are selected for the C.I.T.
