The Cal Poly women's basketball team lost 79-69 at UC-Davis on Saturday. A win would have propelled the Mustangs into a first place tie with Pacific because the Tigers lost to UCSB, 51-47. The Mustangs won at Pacific on Thursday.
Senior forward Nikol Allison scored a career high 22 points in her return home. The Davis High School graduate made 9-15 shots. The Cal Poly starters only scored 27 points combined as the reserves scored the other 42.
The Mustangs were down 36-35 at the half. The Aggies stretched the lead to 53-41 with 11:34 to play. An Allison free throw pulled Cal Poly to within five points with 4:21 to play but the Mustangs never got closer than that.
Cal Poly outrebounded UCD 40-32 and committed four fewer turnovers (23-19). The Aggies made 50 percent of their shots as well as half of their three pointers (10-20). The Mustangs shot 39 percent, making 26 percent (5-19) of their three pointers.
