The Cal Poly community is mourning the loss of one of its own today.
Officials with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's office say the woman whose body was found in the ocean near campus point at UCSB Saturday morning was that of Cal Poly freshman Giselle Esme Ayala.
Authorities say 18-year-old Ayala of Santa Rosa is the woman on the right in the facebook picture.
According to police reports, she was in town with a group of her friends for Del-topia, a spring break party in Isla Vista that's known to involve drinking. Police have been trying to shut the party down for years.
Her friends reported her missing Saturday night and said they had last seen her Friday night.
In an e-mail to the Cal Poly community, president Jeffrey Armstrong expressed condolences to her family and friends.
According to the e-mail, she was a first -year sociology major who lived in the dorms.
The cause of her death is still under investigation.
