Cal Poly cornerback Asa Jackson has signed a four year contract with Baltimore. The Ravens selected the four-time All-Great West Conference First Team pick in the fifth round of last month's NFL Draft with the 169th overall pick.
Financial terms of the deal were not released. However, based on the new collective bargaining agreement ratified last summer, a rookie receives a minimum of $390,000 in 2012, followed by an increase to $480,000 in 2013 and $570,000 in 2014. Those salaries are not guaranteed and depend on if the player makes the team's roster.
The 5-10 Jackson collected 199 tackles, 32 pass breakups and 8 interceptions in his career with the Mustangs and averaged 14.7 yards per punt return and almost 25 yards per kickoff return.
The Ravens have said Jackson will compete for returning duties and they like the potential he brings to their secondary.
Baltimore opens its mandatory rookie camp on Friday. The Ravens' first preseason game is August 9 at Atlanta.
