Cal Poly's Dome to open NCAA's Wednesday against Georgia Tech player

Cal Poly senior Andre Dome will face Georgia Tech senior Juan Spir on Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Men's Singles Championships in Urbana, Illinois. First serve is set for 10 am PDT.

The winner of that match advances to face the winner of fourth seeded Anthony Rossi of Kentucky and John Morrissey of Stanford.

Dome and Spir faced each other back in October in the first round of the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Spir won 7-6, 6-3.

Dome, an Arroyo Grande High graduate, is ranked 30th in the latest ITA tennis poll, while Spir is ranked 44th. Dome was ranked as high as #22 back in March after he knocked off the then 4th ranked player Matija Pecotic of Princeton.

The two-time Big West Player of the Year and four-time All-Big West First Team pick is 21-2 in dual matches this season. He enters the tournament on a 19 match winning streak and has not lost since the end of January.

Spir is 21-16 overall and is 12-10 in dual matches.

Dome is making his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Singles Championship. Last year, he lost in the first round to the #3 seed Eric Quigley of Kentucky 7-5, 6-4.
