Cal Poly senior Mike Miller was named to the 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award watch list. The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop.
Miller is one of fifth players representing 17 different conferences on the list.
The former Cuesta star is having a stellar season with the Mustangs and ranks in the top 10 of several Big West statistical categories. He is fifth in average (.348), second in runs scored (41) and hits (64), tied for fourth in RBI (28), third in slugging percentage (.505), and tied for fifth in doubles (12). The leadoff hitter has helped Cal Poly record the best team batting average (.283) in the Big West and score the second-most runs (238). He also anchors the top defensive team in the conference with its .978 fielding percentage.
The Wallace Award will be presented on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.
Miller and the Mustangs open a three-game Big West series on Friday at UC Davis. Cal Poly is tied for third place with UCSB in the conference standings.
