The Cal Poly men's basketball team was down 51-33 with 12 minutes to go but fought back to win at UCLA, 70-68. Morro Bay High School graduate Dylan Royer led the Mustangs with 18 points and Kyle Odister came off the bench to add 15 points, including the game-winning free throws. Cal Poly improves to 2-2 while the 11th ranked Bruins fall to 4-2. It was the highest ranked team the Mustangs have ever beaten.
Chris Eversley was 6-16 shooting but had 15 points and 10 rebounds, including a tip in to give the Mustangs a 67-65 lead with 1:39 to play. Cal Poly didn't trail the rest of the game but the Bruins did tie it at 68 with 17 seconds to go before Odister was fouled dribbling down the court. Odister made two free throws with 14 seconds left to give the Mustangs the 70-68 lead that they held on to as Jordan Adams missed a 3-pointer as time expired.
Cal Poly held UCLA to just one field goal in the final three minutes as the Mustangs beat the Bruins for the first time in six tries. UCLA needed overtime to beat UC-Irvine of the Big West earlier this month.
Freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad led UCLA with 15 points and 10 rebounds in his debut at Pauley Pavilion.
