Cal Poly soccer loses 1-0 to CSUN in Big West semifinals

The Cal Poly women's soccer team saw its postseason run end on Thursday with a 1-0 loss to Cal State Northridge in the semifinals of the Big West Tournament on Thursday at UC Irvine.

The only goal of the game came in the 26th minute when Melissa Fernandez, scored from a shot from the top of the box. It was her seventh goal of the season. Cal Poly goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti made five saves.

Freshman Elise Krieghoff took six shots on the night, but the Big West Freshman of the Year could not get one past the Conference's Goalkeeper of the Year Cynthia Jacobo, who made four saves on the night.

The Matadors outshot the Mustangs 14-9.

Cal Poly finished the season 9-7-3 overall, while the Matadores improved to 10-4-6. CSUN advances to Sunday's championship game of the Big West Tournament where a spot in the NCAA Tournament will be on the line.
