Lauren Moreno hit her third home run of the season to lead-off the game as Cal Poly beat Indiana, 9-2 at the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State. It was the senior center fielder's second lead-off homer in three games.
The Mustangs finish the season opening three-day classic with a 2-3 record. The Hoosiers were 1-4.
Cal Poly posted a five-run second inning which started with a solo home run by senior designated player Shea Williams. Senior shortstop Kim Westlund also had a two-run double in the inning.
After only allowing one hit in the first five innings, starting pitcher Chloe Wurst (2-3) surrendered two Hoosier runs in the sixth.
The Mustangs added two-runs in the seventh as Wurst finished off a complete game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.
Cal Poly continues its five tournament, pre-Big West Conference slate on Friday at the Stanford Nike Invitational. The Mustangs open the tournament with games against Pacific (10 a.m.) and No. 22 Stanford (2:30 p.m.) on Friday.
