A group of Cal Poly students is giving back to local families hit hard by the economy.
Sunday, hundreds tasted food, beer and wine from local vendors at the Jack House and Gardens in San Luis Obispo, all while donating to their cause.
Cal Poly communications majors held the fourth annual "Flavor of SLO" event as their senior project.
All the money raised from ticket sales, silent auctions and a raffle will be donated to the United Way San Luis Obispo.
Group members say profits were up 11% from last year.
"We were afraid we were going to have to turn people away just because people were so excited to come to our event to listen to the music, taste the food, the wine, the beers and just give back to the community that they love," Allison Sesscer, event coordinator, said.
Dozens of local businesses donated samples of food and beverages.
