FRESNO, Calif. - The Cal Poly men's team placed six runners in the top 10 while the women's team had five runners in the top 10 as both teams dominated the field at the Fresno State Invitational at Woodward Park on Saturday.
Senior Chris Frias won the four mile Invitational course in a time of 19:15 and was closely followed by fellow senior and teammate Sean Davidson in second (19:17). Junior Mitch Moriarty made it one, two, three for the Mustangs with a time of 19:34.
Freshman Clayton Hutchins was the fourth member of the team to finish and placed sixth with a time of 20:05. Freshman Riess Haslam and sophomore Jeff Miles finished eighth and ninth respectively with times of 20:14 and 20:15.
Freshman David Galvez was the last scoring Mustang in 11th place and a time of 20:17. Other Mustangs competing in the invite included sophomore Tyler Huntley in 12th (20:23), freshman Nick Woolf in 16th (20:32), freshman Dimitri Voytilla in 20th (20:42) and freshman Sam Kane in 26th (20:59).
On the women's side, Cal Poly was nearly as dominate with sophomore Ashley Bergstrom winning and covering the 5k course in a time of 18:09. She was followed by sophomore Rachel Bush in second and a time of 18:14.
Freshman Mary Jo Wright was fifth with a time of 18:20. Wright was followed closely by Freshman Ashley Windsor and senior Erika Schaeffer in sixth and seventh with times of 18:26 and 18:30.
Sophomore Sara Van Dyke and freshman Mary Hillis rounded out the competitors for the Mustangs with Van Dyke in 12th (19:17) and Hillis in 18th (19:33).
