SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Cal Poly baseball team overcame a pair of four run deficits en route to an 11-9 victory in their series finale on Thursday against Northern Illinois.
The Huskies struck for four first inning runs against Mustang start Slater Lee, who lasted just 1 2/3 innings, but didn't factor in the decision.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Cal Poly offense scored in each inning against the NIU pitching staff, finally taking their first lead of the night on a 7th inning wild pitch that scored Jimmy Allen.
Allen was one of three mustangs who recorded two hits in the victory. Tim Wise reached base in five of his six plate appearances, scoring two runs and driving in another.
Taylor Chris earned the victory for Cal Poly (14-3) in relief. Chris struck out five over three plus solid innings of work.
The Mustangs open a three game series against Wagner on Friday night at Baggett Stadium.
