Cal Poly's tax program is getting some federal recognition.
Cal Poly students are the only undergraduate non-law school program in the country who participate in the U.S. Federal Court Calendar Call Program.
While the students do not directly represent clients, they assist lawyers who do.
The IRS gave the program $85,000 to expand.
The group specializes in low-income community members, who are dealing with the federal government.
"It is surprising that we kind of are sponsored by the IRS.
I find that they have a lot of work to do, but they do wanna help us resolve all of our client cases," student accountant Hannah Fliesler says.
The clinic is open Monday through Friday at the Oraflea College of Business.
