The Cal Poly men's tennis team lost to Texas Tech 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The loss ends the Big West champions season at 15-8. The first round matchup of the 64 team tournament was played at the University of California in Berkley. Texas Tech is ranked 22nd in the nation while Cal Poly is 63rd. The Red Raiders advance to play 16th ranked Cal in the second round.
The Mustangs won the first match of the morning as the number three doubles team of Jurgen De Jager and Marco Comuzzo defeated the number three doubles team from Texas Tech, 8-6. Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee secured the doubles point for Cal Poly with an 8-4 win in the number two doubles match. The number one doubles matchup featuring Cal Poly's 68th-ranked duo of Andre Dome and Matt Fawcett wasn't finished as the double point was already decided.
The Mustangs were ahead 1-0 entering singles play but lost the first four matches to end the dual. The deciding point came when Cal Poly's Jordan Bridge lost in three sets. After Bridge's loss gave Texas Tech a decisive 4-1 advantage, the two remaining singles matches were stopped. Mustangs number one singles player Andre Dome was tied 3-3 in the third set when it was called. Jurgen De Jager was leading his match in the third set when the match was called.
