The Cal Poly men's basketball team played for the first time in a week and at home for the first time in nearly three. The Mustangs beat Menlo College 89-43 at Mott Gym on Saturday night. The game was on the heels of the players finishing up finals week.
Junior forward Chris Eversley and senior guard Dylan Royer each scored 15 points against the NAIA team to improve Cal Poly to 3-3. Menlo drops to 2-8.
The Mustangs held the Oaks to just 32 percent shooting while they shot 57 percent. From three point range the Mustangs were 10-17 (58%). 11 players saw action for Cal Poly, all playing at least six minutes with nobody playing more than 25 minutes.
The Mustangs had 20 assists compared to eight turnovers. Cal Poly entered the week number five in the nation in assists-to-turnover ratio (1.58 to 1) and number one in fewest turnovers per game (8.6). The Mustangs' 20 assists is a new high in Joe Callero's three-plus seasons as head coach.
The 46-point win is the largest for Cal Poly since a 100-54 victory over Cal State Northridge last season.
The Mustangs play at Nevada (5-4) on Tuesday. The Wolf Pack won at the University of Washington, 76-73 on Saturday. Cal Poly is back at home on Tuesday night at 7:00pm against Eastern New Mexico.
