Righetti High School graduate Molly Schlemer scored 28 points and hauled down 17 rebounds as the Cal Poly women's basketball team defeated New Mexico State, 72-64. The reigning Big West player of the year made 13 of 21 shots from the field as the Mustangs improved to 1-3 on the young season. The Aggies dropped to 1-3.
Cal Poly trailed 33-31 at the half but started the second half with a 25-11 run. The Mustangs went up 64-50 with 7:25 to play. The Aggies pulled to within five with 3:40 to play but Cal Poly responded with scores on three straight possessions to put the game away.
Senior guard, Jonae Ervin scored 11 points to go along with six assists. Junior guard, Ariana Elegado scored 10 points with seven assists. Redshirt freshman, Maddison Allen scored four points and had 10 rebounds. Morro Bay High School graduate, Hannah Gilbert chipped in with two points, one rebound and one assist in seven minutes off the bench. The true freshman is averaging three points and one rebound per game.
Monday's game started a stretch where the Mustangs will play five of six games at home. Cal Poly hosts Nevada on Thursday at 7:00.
