A 33rd minute goal by junior forward Mackenzie Pridham held up as the Cal Poly men's soccer team beat Valparaiso 1-0 in the Mustangs home opener. The win improves Cal Poly to 2-2 on the season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chase Hauser made three saves to register his second career shutout in his third career start. Pridham goal came on a header off a deflected shot attempt from junior forward George Malki. It's Pridham's second goal in as many matches.
Valparaiso outshot Cal Poly 12-11 but the Mustangs had better scoring opportunites throughout the match.
Cal Poly is now 30-10-8 in five-plus seasons at Spanos Stadium. The Mustangs play their next four matches at home as well starting with Friday against Temple. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
