Cal Poly wins pitcher's duel to improve to 2-0

Sophomore Matt Imhof pitched eight scoreless innings and earned the win as the Mustangs scored the only run of the game in the top of the ninth inning to beat the University of San Francisco. The 6'5" lefty allowed five hits, one walk and struck out four to improve the Mustangs to 2-0 on the young season. Cal Poly won in San Francisco, 5-3 on Friday.
With runners on first and third with one out in the ninth, freshman designated hitter Brian Mundell knocked in sophomore first baseman Jordan Brower with a ground out to second base. Junior Michael Holback pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth for his first save of the season.
Cal Poly had 7 hits and 3 walks, no Mustang had more than one hit.
Imhof made four starts but pitched primarily in relief last season, he was 1-0 with a 3.04 ERA. Imhof is stepping in for the graduated Kyle Anderson who was the Saturday starter last season when the Mustangs went 17-1 on Saturday's.
Cal Poly and USF will finish the three game series at Benedetti Diamond on Sunday at 1:00pm. The Mustangs will play at Santa Clara on Monday at 3:00pm. The teams home opener is next Friday at 6:00pm against Seattle University.
