ANAHEIM, Calif. - The quest for back-to-back Big West titles fell one game short for the Cal Poly Women's Basketball Team on Saturday in a 73-58 loss to Cal State Northridge at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
The Mustangs were led by junior Ariana Elegado, who finished with a team-high 23 points. Senior Jonae Ervin - who finished with 10 - scored the games first points, but Cal Poly (18-13, 11-6) never led again.
Cal State Northridge (18-14, 13-4) raced out to a first half lead that stretched to as far as 20 points.
Big West Player of the Year Ashlee Guay was terrific for the Matadors, scoring a game-high 25 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.
Janae Sharpe - who finished with 17 points - was the only other Matador who finished in double figures.
Both were named to the Big West Conference's All-Tournament team, with Guay earning the tournament's MVP honor.
Elegado along with Cal Poly senior Molly Schlemer were also named to the conferences All-Tournament team.
