Junior post Molly Schlemer scored 21 points and hauled down 13 rebounds but it wasn't enough as Cal Poly lost 80-70 to Cal State Northridge in double overtime. The loss drops the Mustangs to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in Big West Conference games while CSUN improves to 11-9 overall and 5-3 in the Big West. Cal Poly went 0-2 on its road trip this week, The Mustangs lost 61-43 at Hawaii on Thursday.
Cal Poly senior Kayla Griffin scored 14 points, she added eight rebounds. Jonae Ervin scored nine points while Nikol Allison added seven.
Haley White led the Matadors with 21 points, Ashlee Guay had 18.
Cal Poly shot 43 percent from the floor but made just 2 of 15 from long range. CSUN shot 40 percent from the floor and made eight of 32 three-pointers. The Mustangs went to the line 26 times and made 14 while CSUN made 8 of 14 from the line.
CSUN outrebounded Cal Poly, 50-42, with the Mustangs turning the ball over two more times, 26-24.
Cal Poly was up five points at the half, (35-30). In the second half the Mustangs built a 10 point lead (47-37) on a Schlemer layup with 10:43 left. The Matadors were able to tie the game at 58 with 29 seconds left, CSUN had an opportunity to win at the buzzer, but missed a three-pointer sending the game into overtime.
In the first extra session, Ervin gave Cal Poly a 65-62 lead with 57 seconds left on a jump shot. The Matadors made a layup with 15 seconds left to pull within one. A Caroline Reeves free throw with 13 seconds left put the Mustangs up two, 66-64. Ashlee Guay sent the game into its second overtime when she made a layup with five seconds to go.
CSUN won the second overtime 14-4 to win going away.
The Mustangs won a triple overtime game against Pacific two weeks ago at home.
Next up for Cal Poly is a home game against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday. The Titans are 3-4 in the Big West.
