The Cal Poly women's basketball team has been picked fourth in the Big West Conference Preseason Media Poll. The two-time defending regular season champion Mustangs received one of the 16 first place votes and 127 overall points.
Defending Conference Tournament champion UC Santa Barbara received three first place votes and finished third in the voting with 153 points.
Cal State Northridge received 6 first place votes and topped the preseason poll at 161 points, followed by Pacific with 159.
Head coach Faith Mimnaugh welcomes back All-Big West Second Team pick Kayla Griffin and All-Big West Honorable Mention Jonae Ervin, who led the nation in assist to turnover ratio and ranked 4th in the Big West with 3.6 assists per game.
Griffin was one of six players named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
Senior Caroline Reeves (4.5 points, 3.4 rebounds) and Brittany Woodard (5.3ppg, 3.5 rpg), junior Molly Schlemer, a Righetti High graduate, and sophomore Ariana Elegado (5 points, 2.7 assists) are also back for the Mustangs.
Cal Poly will have to replace two-time Big West Player of the Year Kristina Santiago. The Righetti High graduate became the program's all-time leader in points scored, rebounds and shooting percentage. She led the conference last season with 23.4 points per game, .555 field goal percentage and 9.9 rebounds per game on her way to All-American Honorable Mention honors.
