The two-time defending Big West regular season champion Cal Poly women's basketball team unveiled its sechdule for the 2012-13 season on Tuesday. The 29 game slate includes the Mustangs hosting a tournament, as well as games against Oklahoma State, Oregon State, San Diego, 14th ranked Cal and San Diego State.
Head coach Faith Mimnaugh's squad opens the season on Friday, November 9 at Oklahoma State in their first-ever battle. The Mustangs then travel to Oregon State on November 12.
Cal Poly opens the season at home on Saturday, November 17 when the University of San Diego comes to Mott Gym at 2pm. The Mustangs went 10-3 in Mott Gym last season.
Cal Poly plays at California on Monday, November 19 at 5pm.
Stephen F. Austin and CSU Bakersfield will take part in the Cal Poly Thanksgiving Tournament from November 23-25. The Mustangs then welcome in Saint Mary's on Thursday, November 29 at 7pm before playing at Nevada on December 2.
The Mustangs wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a home game against San Diego State on Sunday, December 16, San Francisco on Tuesday, December 18 and Loyola Marymount on Thursday, December 20.
The Mustangs open the 19 game conference schedule at Long Beach State on January 3.
Kayle Griffin, Ariana Elegado, Kristen Ale, Jonae Ervin, Caroline Reeves, Brittany Woodard and Righetti High graduate Molly Schlemer are among the key players returning to the Mustangs. Cal Poly is coming off a 17-15 season that included its second-straight appearance in the Women's National invitation Tournament and 12-4 mark in Big West play.
Santa Ynez High grad Christine Martin, Righetti High graduate Kristina Santiago, Abby Bloetscher and sharp shooter Ashlee Burns are among the women Cal Poly lost to graduation.
