Cal Poly Women top UC Riverside, 89-72

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Women's Basketball team remained perfect at the Mott Athletics Center this year with an 89-72 victory over UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs (11-8, 5-1 Big West) were led by Ariana Elegado, who scored a game-high 18 points to go with 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Jonae Ervin also chipped in with 14 points, all coming in the first half.

UC Riverside scored the games first two points, but after an Ervin jump shot gave Cal Poly a 4-2 advantage, the Mustangs sustained a lead the rest of the way.

Cal Poly, who entered Saturday as the Big West's highest scoring team, shot 53 percent from the floor, while holding the Highlanders to 33 percent shooting.

The Mustangs open a two game road trip at UC Davis on Thursday, January 30th.
