Junior center Molly Schlemer had game highs with 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Cal Poly women's basketball team won at Cal State Fullerton, 72-47. The Mustangs outscored the Titans, 39-15 in the second half after being up 33-32 at the half. The win improves Cal Poly to 18-9 overall, 12-4 in the Big West and extends its winning streak to five games. CS-Fullerton drops to 9-19, 5-11.
The Mustangs stay a half game back of first place Pacific (13-4), the Tigers won at UC-Irvine, 66-53 on Saturday. Pacific has one game remaining, at UC-Davis (7-10 in conference) next Saturday. Cal Poly hosts UC-Irvine (5-11) on Thursday and Long Beach State (8-8) on Saturday. If both teams win out they'll have the same conference record but Cal Poly won both meetings with Pacific this season.
The Mustangs shot 48 percent from the field and 53 percent (8-15) from three point range. Cal Poly held CS-Fullerton to 29 percent shooting.
Sophomore guard Ariana Elegado scored 11 points to go along with 6 assists. Senior forward Kayla Griffin had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Junior guard Jonae Ervin had 3 assists compared to 1 turnover. Ervin is leading the nation in assist to turnover ratio at 3.03 assists to every turnover. Ervin finished last season as the national leader in the same category.
