As firefighters battle the Calf Fire they are competing against some locally strong winds to 20mph however no fire weather warnings are in place because most winds are under 20 and temperatures are actually below normal with highs only getting into the the 70s today.
However the stage was apparently set for the fire due to the very low rain totals from last year (only 60% of normal) and very hot and dry conditions last week.
Interestingly the forecast includes a chance of drizzle for coastal areas and a marine layer of about 2500ft which will allow cool moist air to get inland this evening.
