SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) California Republicans are hoping the political tide has finally turned in their favor this year.
Despite its minority status in the Golden State, the party is eager to tap into outrage over big government, politics and widespread opposition to taxes.
Republicans are kicking off their 2010 efforts this weekend at their spring convention in Santa Clara, starting with a Friday night speech by gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman.
While the races for governor and U.S. Senate are drawing the most attention, party leaders are looking for chances to chip into Democratic majorities in the state Legislature and Congress.
This weekend also includes an appearance from tea party activists, who have been vocal in their anti-government sentiment this year but whose effect in November is unknown.
