California Highway Patrol offers "Start Smart" class at Santa Maria office

The California Highway Patrol is offering two more sessions of its popular "Start Smart" traffic safety class on Wednesday evenings.
Because of the interest,the 2-hour class will now be offered on two nights. The first will be March 6, the second on March 20.
The classes are held at the CHP's Santa Maria office at 1710 North Carlotti Drive. They are free and geared toward young drivers.
The classes were already scheduled before Tuesday's report from the Governors' Highway Safety Association that revealed deaths of teen drivers in this country jumped 19-percent in the first six months of last year. The number is more than double the increase for overall traffic deaths.
