More than 22-thousand people submitted applications online to be hired as California Highway Patrol officers.
CHP Officer Danny Maher said the applications were received statewide during a three-day recruitment period that ended Saturday night. They included 994 applications from the CHP's Coastal Division which includes the Central Coast.
This was the first time in almost three years the CHP has had an open application process.
Applicants who met the minimum requirements online will be given the chance to take a written exam, the next step in the process to become eligible for hiring.
