SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Freshman Justin Calomeni fired six more strong innings and Cal Poly opened their 18 game homestand with a 4-2 victory over Northern Illinois on Tuesday.
The Mustangs struggled to break free of the Huskies (1-13) after scoring four early runs, but Calomeni's strong outing along with an eight out save from closer Reid Reilly helped secure the victory for Cal Poly (12-3).
Calomeni - who allowed just four hits and one earned run over his six and a third innings of work - has now won each of his four starts for Cal Poly this season. Reilly secured his fourth save in the victory.
The Mustang offense was paced by Tim Wise and Jimmy Allen, who recorded two hits apiece for Cal Poly.
The two teams continue their three game series tomorrow night at Baggett Stadium. Junior Danny Zandona is the scheduled starter for Cal Poly.
